Shank: Film Review

It seems like the UK has now acquired a new genre, which you could name by ‘Urban Drama’. Shank has produced another classic in continuation on from the success of Noel Clark’s Kidulthood and Adulthood, totally establishing a new form of British film in this modern age. The attraction of gang culture and urban lifestyle has been drawn upon by many different types of audiences and age groups, not just inspired by those who live in the urban world. All cultures and ethnicities are all fascinated in the upcoming movies, Shank and 4.3.2.1.

Kedar Williams-Stirling (Junior) is proving to be a worthy actor at the young age that he is, performing the lead role effectively and dominantly. Set in London 2015, people are forced to claim onto different gangs as they are poverty driven, fighting for survival after the predicted economy crash by the credit crunch. Heists are important in order to live, not for money but for food. Our protagonists being a crew containing, Ashley Bashy Thomas (Rager), Adam Deacon (Kickz), Michael Socha (Craze) and Jan Uddin (Sweet boy) along with youngest member Kedar Williams-Stirling (Junior), all deliver funny, energetic, passionate performaces, combined with the films seriousness with the gang violence etc. making the film an all-round spectacle.

I’d say the film is a definite ‘go-see’, even if you have the fainted interest in the modern urban world. Shank provides a further look into what will maybe become of the London and other cities like the nation’s capital, in years to come, in a intelligent analysis, with a banging soundtrack, also alongside the comedy of UK’s grime MC Bashy’s ‘Munchies Skank’. Go see Shank down at the local cinema near you from Friday 26th March!
